Heather Meeks (pictured above, right, with Citizens Bank’s Julie Warden), first-grade teacher at Midland Elementary, was named Monday to receive the March “Citizens Bank Shine Like a Mustang Award.”
Citizens Bank said in a media release that Meeks’s dedication to teaching is evident through her individualized support to students and teachers.
“Heather is an amazing teacher and teacher leader. She works to help every student in her class. For those who need it, she works 1-on-1 to make sure they get the support they need,” said a colleague. “As a teacher leader, she makes sure that the teachers are identifying student needs, helps come up with interventions, and makes suggestions on the best way to support the needs of students. She shows up early and stays late. Heather Meeks ‘Shines Like a Mustang’ every day.”
With this program, Citizens Bank and Midland School District aim to recognize staff members who shine in their role as Mustangs and live out the district’s vision to engage learning at high levels and embrace challenges without fear of failure. Staff nominate the award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card, and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Midland School Board meeting each month.
