A Stone County man is facing multiple charges following an alleged break-in, confrontation with law enforcement, and physical altercations with deputies, according to an arrest affidavit filed by the Stone County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at approximately 1:27 a.m. on April 9, reporting that an intoxicated male had entered a residence at the Natural Lodge on Meadowcreek Road. The caller told dispatchers the man, who was wearing a hoodie and jeans and driving a white vehicle, had attempted to kiss her before leaving the property. The address the man gave dispatchers matched his own nearby residence, according to the report.

Deputies approached the scene from multiple directions to intercept the vehicle. While two deputies interviewed the caller at the residence, another deputy stopped a white Chevrolet truck matching the suspect’s description. Due to a poor radio signal, dispatch was not initially aware of the traffic stop.

The driver, identified as David M. Huff (pictured), 30, of Fox, Arkansas, allegedly refused to provide identification and told the deputy he had consumed “plenty” of alcohol and would not be going to jail. Open containers of alcohol were reportedly observed in the center console of the vehicle.

The affidavit states that Huff resisted arrest and refused to exit his vehicle. When the deputy attempted to place him in handcuffs, Huff allegedly fought back, stating multiple times that he would not be arrested and referencing previous DWI offenses. The two reportedly struggled on the ground for approximately 20 minutes, during which Huff allegedly dug his fingernails into the deputy’s arms and kicked him.

According to the arrest affidavit, at one point during the altercation, Huff reportedly admitted to entering the home on Meadowcreek Road, though his statements about how he entered were inconsistent. Additional deputies and officers arrived to assist, and Huff was ultimately restrained and transported to the Stone County Detention Center.

A search of the vehicle revealed several unopened beer cans and one open container in the console. Authorities also noted that Huff’s driver’s license carried a restriction requiring an ignition interlock device, which was not present in the vehicle.

While at the detention center, Huff allegedly refused to comply with a breath test and declined to sign a rights form. During a clothing change procedure, he reportedly kicked a deputy in the face. A taser was deployed but failed to make contact. Huff was later transported to Stone County Medical Center at his request before being returned to the detention center.

In circuit court on Tuesday, Huff was charged with nine counts — four of those felonies. His bond has been set at $250,000.
