A 42-year-old man was arrested last week in Independence County on charges of delivering methamphetamine, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Robert Edward Walter on Wednesday, June 19, in Batesville on a warrant issued March 20. Prosecutors filed four counts of delivery of a controlled substance the following day.

Two of the charges involve more than 2 grams but less than 10 grams of meth, while the other two involve less than 2 grams. Walter is also charged as a habitual offender under Arkansas law, which can increase sentencing for repeat offenders.

According to court documents, the Independence County Sheriff’s Office used a confidential informant who allegedly bought meth from Walter on four separate occasions. Each transaction was recorded on video, and investigators identified Walter in the footage, the affidavit said.

Authorities said the evidence was secured and sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for further analysis.

Walter was booked into the Independence County Jail and later released on a $20,000 bond.
