A Mountain Home woman was killed Tuesday evening when her son’s homemade shotgun exploded at the Sylamore Shooting Range in Stone County, according to Sheriff Brandon Long.
The victim has been identified as 64-year-old Brenda Kowalski. Her son, 23-year-old Moon Kowalski, also of Mountain Home, was injured in the incident. He was treated and later released from Stone County Medical Center in Mountain View.
Sheriff Long told Mountain Home media outlet KTLO that the Kowalskis were at the shooting range on Arkansas State Highway 5, north of Mountain View, when the younger Kowalski fired the homemade firearm. The shotgun exploded, and a piece of the gun struck his mother in the neck. She died at the scene.
The incident was reported at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff Long said the case remains under investigation but confirmed no charges will be filed.
