Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders is calling for the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University to make their football matchup an annual event at War Memorial Stadium.
In a letter to both schools’ boards of trustees (scroll down to read in full), Sanders said Saturday’s first-ever game between the Razorbacks and the Red Wolves was a “historic” and “long-overdue” moment for fans across the state. Arkansas defeated A-State 56–14 before a reported crowd of more than 54,000.
Sanders, a Little Rock native, wrote that trustees “hold the ability to ensure this game is not a one-time event, but the beginning of a lasting tradition.”
The governor added she is willing to assist the schools in securing the game as a yearly fixture.
