Independence County officials have reopened the bridge over Barnett Creek on Cold Creek Road after completing construction in just 12 working days, a timeline County Judge Kevin Jeffery described as “record time.”

Jeffery announced Monday that the bridge is now open to traffic, less than three weeks after county officials warned motorists that the south end of Cold Creek Road would be closed for repairs. The closure affected the section just north of Sandy Lane, off Sandtown Road.

“We will be adding railing and doing some final grade on the road as we have removed the curve in the road,” Jeffery said, calling the project a “gallant effort” and praising all involved. He noted the bridge is the fifth completed in less than three years.

Cold Creek Road had been closed since late September for the bridge work.
