Property values in Independence County have risen sharply since the last countywide reappraisal in 2020, increasing by about 55.1%, according to a report from Arkansas Business.

The surge reflects a broader statewide trend driven by pandemic-era housing shortages, higher construction costs, and an influx of new residents to Arkansas. Seventeen counties underwent reappraisal this year, with Independence County ranking among the top increases behind Sebastian and Johnson counties.

Experts cited by Arkansas Business said the jump stems from a combination of limited housing supply and strong demand since COVID-19. The new valuations will boost local tax revenues, especially for public schools, but may also lead to higher property tax bills for homeowners.

Under state law, counties now reappraise properties every four years to reflect current market conditions.
