The Batesville Police Department is encouraging residents to stay alert and make safety a priority during the holiday season.
As families gather, roads grow busier, and shopping areas fill with activity, police say responsible choices can help ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for everyone.
“Our officers will be out in full force throughout the holiday season to help protect our community,” Police Chief John Scarbrough said in a statement. “We want everyone to celebrate responsibly, travel safely, and look out for one another.”
The department offered several safety reminders:
Travel safely: Never drive impaired, buckle up, and avoid distractions. Allow extra travel time and watch for pedestrians and weather hazards.
Protect your belongings: Park in well-lit areas, keep valuables out of sight, and shop only from reputable online sources.
Secure your home: Lock doors and windows, ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your property if traveling, and avoid overloading outlets or leaving candles unattended.
Police said officers will increase patrols during the holidays with a focus on impaired driving, theft prevention, and overall public safety.
“The holidays should be a time of joy and togetherness,” Scarbrough said. “With a little extra care and awareness, we can all do our part to make sure everyone has a safe and happy holiday season.”
