Batesville native Mark Brissey is scheduled to start Tuesday as the No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks host Northern Colorado at Baum-Walker Stadium.
The freshman right-hander was featured Monday in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette following a series of relief appearances where he has not allowed an earned run. In six innings of work this season, Brissey has limited opposing hitters to one hit and two walks while recording nine strikeouts.
Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs told the newspaper that Brissey has performed better than coaches initially anticipated, earning a spot at the front of a competitive freshman class. Hobbs noted that while Brissey was available during the recent weekend series against Mississippi State, he was held back to ensure he could take on a larger role this week.
Brissey’s pitch count will likely be monitored Tuesday to keep him available for the Razorbacks’ upcoming SEC series at South Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
