Jazz Central, a cooperative effort between Central Oregon Community College and the nonprofit Cascade Chorale Association, is performing an evening of timeless jazz standards at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at the Unity Spiritual Community of Central Oregon, 63645 Scenic Drive, in Bend.

Presented by 18 singers, the program features beloved classics such as “Cheek to Cheek,” “St. Thomas,” “Birks’ Works,” “Only Trust Your Heart,” “Blackbird” and “I Only Have Eyes for You,” along with soulful gospel selections and standout student solos.
Jazz Central is a vocal and instrumental jazz combination formed by COCC music professor James Knox in 2019, who also directs the ensemble. The group’s pianist, Jack Krouscup, is a jazz musician and composer, who along with Knox frequently contributes new music to the group’s repertoire. The band also features a bassist and drummer.
Each performer is enrolled in a one-credit jazz vocal ensemble class at COCC, with tuition offsetting the costs of rehearsal space and the time of the musical director.
