At 9:57 pm on Thursday, December 15, Bend Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 64809 Grande Loop in the Tumalo area. First arriving crews found a working attic fire and were able to quickly suppress it.
According to the property owner, the power had gone out to the residence. They had contacted Central Electric Cooperative at approximately 9 pm, believing it to be a neighborhood outage, and gone to bed. When the CEC technician arrived on site just before 10 pm, he found smoke coming from the roofline of the home. He called 911 and assisted the homeowner and two dogs in safely evacuating the residence. Red Cross assistance was declined by the homeowner.
Losses are estimated at $80,000 to the structure and $20,000 to the contents. The fire is currently under investigation.
