TYPE IL CEMENT SEMINAR
April 13 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Cracking, Finishing, and Field Problems Contractors Are Seeing and How to Minimize the Risk of Their Occurrence
What: A free, full day professional education seminar hosted by Hooker Creek Companies, LLC on Monday, April 13, 2026 at the Riverhouse Convention Center, 2850 NW Rippling River Court, Bend, Oregon. The seminar runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM with a complimentary Social Hour from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. Lunch is provided for all attendees at no cost.
Why: Type IL cement (Portland Limestone Cement) has completely replaced traditional Type I/II cement across Oregon, Washington, and California. It now accounts for over 60% of the cement market nationally and is 100% of the cement supply in Oregon. While Type IL meets ASTM C595 standards and delivers similar strength, it behaves differently in the field with smaller margins for error. Contractors and finishers are experiencing increased challenges with surface crusting, crazing, delamination, plastic shrinkage cracking, and early setting in the hot, dry, and windy conditions common to Central Oregon. With tremendous growth taking place across the region, this seminar is designed to provide the practical tools and field proven strategies needed to understand, adapt, and execute successful concrete projects using Type IL cement in both public and private work.
Keynote Speaker: Chad White, Senior Concrete Consultant with Structural Services Inc. (SSI), brings over 40 years of hands on concrete construction experience to this seminar. Chad began his career as a cement mason apprentice and worked his way through every level of the trade before founding and leading a successful concrete construction company for more than 15 years. A member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Chad has authored numerous technical articles on concrete slab installation and is a featured speaker at the World of Concrete conference. He co-authored the August 2025 ACI Concrete International field guide on placing and finishing Type IL cement mixes, which has become an essential industry reference. Media outlets are encouraged to contact Scott Carlson to arrange pre-event interviews or day-of access to Chad White.
Who: This seminar is free and open to all industry professionals but is specifically designed for engineers, inspectors, construction managers, project owners, ready mix concrete producers, contractors, concrete finishers, aggregate and cement professionals, and developers. Staff from the City of Bend and Deschutes County Public Works departments have already registered to attend, reflecting the broad relevance of this topic across public and private sector projects. The seminar has been approved by the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB) for continuing education credits for both Residential and Commercial license holders.
