Lyon College Director of Athletics Kevin Jenkins announced the appointment of Paeton Tucker as the interim head volleyball coach for the Scots, elevating a former All-American to lead the program she once helped anchor as a player.
Tucker, a 2024 Lyon graduate, transitions into the leadership role after serving as the team’s assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Her appointment comes as the Scots continue their transition into NCAA Division III competition following a successful 20-9 season.
“Paeton has a deep understanding of our volleyball program and the values we uphold at Lyon College,” Jenkins said. “Her experience as both an All-American player and a dedicated coach makes her the ideal leader to guide our student-athletes through this interim period.”
As a student-athlete, Tucker was a four-year member of the Scots and earned 2023 USCAA Second Team All-American honors. She played a pivotal role in leading the team to a runner-up finish at the USCAA National Championship. During her tenure as an assistant coach, she specialized in back-row defense and serve receive while helping coach three SLIAC All-Conference selections.
Dr. Kurt Grafton, Lyon College’s executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, described Tucker as a “dedicated leader” and “excellent mentor” who is respected by the student body.
Tucker, who previously coached club volleyball with White River Juniors for three years, expressed a sense of personal milestone in the appointment.
“I am incredibly excited to step into this role — going from once wearing the jersey to leading the program is a full-circle moment,” Tucker said. “This change comes with new challenges and opportunities to grow even more, and I can’t wait to see what this upcoming season brings.”
The move ensures continuity for the program following the departure of former head coach Kortney Cunningham. Tucker graduated from Lyon with a degree in psychology and was a consistent member of the Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
