A three-vehicle collision claimed one life and sent two others to the hospital Monday morning, according to local authorities.
The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 167 South in Independence County, approximately five miles south of Batesville. The Arkansas Department of Transportation first reported the incident at 7:01 a.m. near the junction of State Highway 14.
Independence County Sheriff Shawn Stephens confirmed that one person was killed in the wreck. Preliminary reports said emergency responders transported two additional victims to nearby facilities for medical treatment. The identities and conditions of those involved have not yet been released.
The collision caused significant travel disruptions, with all lanes of the highway blocked for a period of time. Northbound traffic was heavily impacted, and motorists were diverted to other routes while crews cleared the wreckage.
Arkansas State Police have taken the lead on the investigation. Officials stated that further information will be made available once the preliminary investigation is finalized.
