Batesville has secured a top-tier spot on the national stage, finishing seventh in the 2026 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Town in the South.

The ranking, determined by a month-long public voting campaign, places the northern Arkansas city among a prestigious group of Southern destinations recognized for charm, hospitality, and outdoor adventure.

“This is something our community should be proud of,” said Crystal Johnson, president and CEO of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. “Finishing in the Top 10 speaks to the pride, energy, and momentum across Batesville—from businesses and downtown to events, parks, and people.”

The 10Best awards begin with nominations from an expert panel, then are turned over to readers across the country. USA Today’s feature on Batesville highlighted the city’s blend of historic landmarks, such as the Melba Theater, and its proximity to outdoor activities like spelunking, hiking, and canoeing.

Dalaney Thomas, director of Tourism with the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism, called the recognition a testament to the city’s “welcoming spirit.”

“Batesville continues to shine as both a must-visit destination and a place people are proud to call home,” Thomas said.

This is not the first time the city has garnered national attention. Batesville’s growing portfolio of accolades includes being named a USA Today Top 25 City and a Trendsetter City by Arkansas Business.

Batesville finished ahead of Bryson City, North Carolina; Williamsburg, Virginia; and Georgetown, South Carolina. Starkville, Mississippi, took the top spot in this year’s rankings.

According to Johnson, the achievement was a collective effort.

“This wasn’t just about a ranking. It was about coming together,” Johnson said. “And once again, our community showed up.”
