Faith, music, and community come together this Friday when the Lyon College Gospel Choir presents its spring concert, featuring an ensemble of student and local voices performing works ranging from gospel classics to contemporary praise.
The free, public event begins at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the Bevens Music Room of the Brown Fine Arts Building on the Lyon College campus, 2300 Highland Road.
Under the direction of Barretta Robinson, the program will blend traditional and contemporary gospel selections, opening with a prayer and welcome before moving into songs of inspiration. Featured pieces include “Jesus Promised” by the Chicago Mass Choir; “My Life Is in Your Hands” by Kirk Franklin & God’s Property; “Faithful Is Our God,” written by Hezekiah Walker; and “How Much We Can Bear” by The Choir Room.
A motivational segment will feature performances of “Grateful” by Hezekiah Walker, “Joy” by The Choir Room, “Goodness of God” by CeCe Winans, and “The Blood Still Works” by Malcolm Williams and Great Faith.
“This concert is a celebration of faith and community,” Robinson said. “Our choir members have dedicated themselves throughout the semester, and this program reflects not only their talent but their shared spirit of praise and encouragement. We are grateful for the support of Lyon College and the north Arkansas community.”
Robinson will deliver closing remarks to conclude the program.
The choir is accompanied by pianists Hunter Hall and Jaalyn Steen. Members include sopranos Paolina Pandolfi-de-Rinaldis, Sheila Avant, Amy Hardin, Roberta McGuffey, Sajani Sharma, Sandra Moyo, Amber Kelley, Lynette Waters, and Elisabeth Meadows; altos Karen Ford, Makayla Brooks Bales, Sonya Rucker, and Ashley Insell; and tenors Nathan Hutto, Hunter Hall, and Rochelle Neely.
