Local and federal authorities are investigating a pair of bomb threats that targeted Walmart stores in Batesville and Ash Flat on Sunday.
The Batesville Police Department said the threat was phoned in Sunday afternoon, prompting a large-scale search of the premises. Officers from the Arkansas State Police and the Independence County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the sweep, which eventually determined the threat was not credible.
Batesville investigators said they are working with federal partners to identify those responsible for the call.
A similar incident occurred in Ash Flat on Sunday. Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell confirmed a threat was also called into that city’s Walmart location. Following a search of the store, police concluded the call was false.
