The Batesville Rotary Club has launched a raffle aimed at securing a permanent future for local student scholarships.
President-elect Tommy Newton shared details of the initiative during a recent segment on Arkansas 103.3 KWOZ and 1340 KBTA with White River Now’s Chad Whiteaker. (Listen to their conversation below.)
The club is selling exactly 200 tickets at $100 each. If all tickets are sold, the $20,000 pot will be split 50/50, leaving the winner and the club with $10,000 each. Newton emphasized that 100% of the club’s proceeds will fund scholarships for high school seniors in Independence County and Cave City entering college or career development programs.
Currently, the club provides four $1,000 scholarships annually. However, the ultimate goal is to establish an endowment. “We want to make a scholarship opportunity… available in perpetuity,” Newton said, noting that some Rotary Clubs maintain million-dollar endowments capable of supporting dozens of students.
Beyond scholarships, the club remains active with its “dictionaries for third graders” program and the annual Angel Tree. Those interested in tickets can contact Newton at tommygnewton@gmail.com.
